PRP Facial Treatment

What is a PRP Facial?

A PRP facial is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that harnesses the power of platelet-rich plasma to rejuvenate the skin. Also known as a “vampire facial,” PRP procedures collect an individual’s blood platelets, which are then processed and injected into their skin.

Platelet-rich plasma contains growth factors that stimulate cell regeneration and boost collagen production. PRP facial benefits include improvement in skin tone, as well as reduction of wrinkles, fine lines, and scars.

PRP facials are long-lasting, with natural-looking results. Effects can be boosted by coupling a PRP facial with microneedling or by adding a hyaluronic acid treatment.

What to Expect from a PRP Facial

A PRP facial begins with a blood draw from the arm. The collected blood sample is processed in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from other elements of the blood. In the meantime, the client is made comfortable, and the face is prepped with a thorough cleaning. A topical anesthetic may be applied, especially if the procedure is augmented with microneedling.

The refined platelet-rich plasma is either injected into the skin or applied topically after microneedling, where a device with tiny needles makes minuscule punctures in the skin to allow absorption of the plasma.

PRP FAQ

Is PRP Right for Your Skin Type?

PRP facials are beneficial for every skin type. However, individuals with blood disorders, certain chronic illnesses or cancer, and those who rely on daily blood thinners may need to avoid undergoing PRP treatment.

PRP facials are considered safe when performed in a sterile environment by a qualified professional. Side effects are rare and, because blood is sourced from the individual undergoing the procedure, there is little to no risk of rejection or an allergic reaction.

It is important to stop taking blood thinning medications and supplements one week before a procedure. If possible, avoid alcohol, caffeine, and smoking during that time frame as well. On the day of the appointment, arrive well hydrated and with clean, makeup-free skin.

The duration of PRP results depends on one’s age, skin type, and how well they respond to treatment. Results can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years.

Frequency of PRP facial treatment depends on one’s skin type and treatment goals. The average course of treatment is an initial phase of 3-4 sessions, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, with maintenance sessions every 6-12 months.

PRP facials stimulate collagen production and regenerate skin tissue. This plumps and tightens the skin, giving a more youthful appearance.

PRP facials are effective in treating acne scars, including areas of pitted or indented scarring. A PRP facial can be even more effective for acne scars when combined with microneedling.

A PRP facial improves the tone and texture of thin undereye skin, helping the area look fresher and brighter.

A PRP facial can reduce hyper-pigmentation from sun damage, aging, and inflammation. Results include diminished dark spots, less inflammation, greater skin elasticity, and a more even complexion.
